Databases

Databases index journal articles, books, conference proceedings, reports, and other materials. Databases may be searched individually or in categorized groups via Metalib. If you are searching for a journal title, look it up in the Online Catalog or the CitationLinker, SFX. If we do not own, or have access to, a journal you need, you may request it from Interlibrary Loan. If you are unsure about the quality of the journals you are using, consult the online tutorial, Scholarly Journals vs. Popular Magazines.

The most frequently used environmental databases are:

Cambridge Journals Online.
Over 100 journals are indexed in this database, which provides full text coverage and searching options.

Environmental Sciences. 1993+ (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts)
Environmental science databases are grouped together in Cambridge Scientific Abstracts. Cambridge Scientific Abstracts allows you to search by database categories (e.g., environmental science) or within selected databases. Specific databases related to environmental science include, Agricola, Agricultural and Environmental Biotechnology Abstracts, ASFA 3: Aquatic Pollution and Environmental Quality, Bacteriology Abstracts, Ecology Abstracts, EIS: Digests of Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Engineering Abstracts, Health and Safety Science Abstracts, Human Population & Natural Resource Management, Industrial and Applied Microbiology Abstracts, Pollution Abstracts, Risk Abstracts, Toxicology Abstracts, Water Resources Abstracts.

ScienceDirect (Elsevier).
A comprehensive electronic collection of scholarly science, technology and medicine full text and bibliographic information.

Wiley Interscience.
Wiley Interscience includes full text coverage of journals, reference works, and online books in all areas of science.

Wilson Science Complete.

Wilson Science Complete is the online version of the General Science Index, Biological and Agricultural Index, and the Applied Science and Technology Index.
There are other databases available via a dial up service, which requires a librarian's assistance. Please consult a librarian for access to Enviroline, Environmental Bibliography, and SciSearch.

A supplement to the E.P.A. Publications Bibliography, 1977-1983 (Gov. Doc. EP 1.21/7-2:977-83/) which indexes technical reports and journal articles. Latest year(s) are published in microfiche.

Florida Environments Online.
This resources is one of the digital libraries created by PALMM (Publication of Archival, Library, and Museum Materials). Reports from the Florida Geological Society and the Florida Department of Agriculture, in addition to selected texts are digitized and archived for public access.

PERCH Bibliography
The PERCH (Partnership for Environmental Research and Community Health) is a collaborative database created and updated by the UWF Center for Environmental Diagnostics & Bioremediation and the Florida Department of Health/Escambia & Santa Rosa County Health Departments. PERCH is a searchable database of bibliographical materials pertaining to the environment of Northwest Florida. This database was derived from several preexisting databases and from literature searches intended to include all information relating to the environment of our region. The oldest historical citations go back to the 18th century coinciding with the beginnings of continuous settlement in Pensacola. Environmental topics are extremely diverse covering multiple scientific and applied disciplines.
