This multi-disciplinary database provides access to journal articles in the social sciences, humanities, and sciences.

Anthropology Plus. 19th Century-
This resource contains citations and abstracts to international articles on anthropology and archaeology, including art history, demography, economics, psychology, and religious studies.

Social Sciences Full-Text. 1983-
This multi-disciplinary database provides access to journal articles in archaeology and the social sciences.

Sociological Abstracts. 1963-
This work provides abstracts of articles from over 1,000 international sociology and social science journals. To most effectively use the index, consult the Thesaurus of Sociological Indexing Terms (Ref. Z 695.1 S63 B66 1992) to determine the appropriate terminology. See the print index (Ref. HM 1 S672) for earlier coverage, 1953-1962.

Wiley Interscience. 1996-
This database contains full text coverage of 1,000 journals, major reference works, and online books. A selection of anthropology and archaeology journals are represented.

Archaeological Method and Theory: An Encyclopedia. 2000. (Ref. CC 75 A654 2000)
This lightly illustrated, alphabetically-arranged encyclopedia contains essays ranging from one to several pages which cover the theories, methodological practices, and ethical standards of conduct related to research and practice in the field of archaeology. The work, written by 89 experienced contributors, also includes 60 biographies of notable archaeologists. Entries are followed by lists of additional reading. The work concludes with comprehensive name and subject indexes.

Facts on File Dictionary of Archaeology. 1983. (Ref. CC 70 F32)
Archaeological terms are defined in short paragraphs with multiple cross-references.

Historical Dictionary of North American Archaeology. 1988. (Ref. E 77.9 H57)
This dictionary of major prehistoric cultures, archaeological sites, and artifact types of North America contains an appendix listing sites geographically, a comprehensive bibliography, and an index.

Illustrated Dictionary of Art and Archaeology. 1966. (Ref. N 33 M6)
This reprint of the 1883 edition is subtitled Including Terms Used in Architecture, Jewelry, Heraldry, Costume, Music, Ornament, Weaving, Furniture, Pottery, Ecclesiastical Ritual.

International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences (IESBS). 2001. (Ref. H 41 I58 2001)
This highly inter-disciplinary, 26-volume encyclopedia set provides thousands of detailed articles written by 4,000 authors from over 50 countries, including 150 biographical entries of deceased scientists and scholars. The fully cross-referenced work also provides approximately 90,000 bibliographic references and concludes with comprehensive name and subject indexes. This new reference tool helps to supplement and update the information contained in MacMillan's classic, 18-volume International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences (Ref. H 40 A2 I5) published in 1968.


Thesaurus of British Archaeology. 1982. (Ref. DA 90 A6)
This source serves as a dictionary of terms, as well as a thesaurus of synonyms in the field of British archaeology.

This detailed manual covering aspects of field archaeology from pre-excavation exploration to site publications also includes practical information on financial aid, site opportunities for archaeologists, and an extensive bibliography.

Heritage Resources Law: Protecting the Archeological and Cultural Environment. 1999. (Ref. KF 4310 .H883 1999)
This resource examines how the law has come to view archaeological and other heritage resources. Although it addresses heritage resources mainly within the context of federal law, it does discuss state law and American Indian tribal law that sometimes constitute supplementary or controlling authority.

Oxford Companion to Archaeology. 1996. (Ref. CC 70 O96)
This handbook provides a comprehensive overview of archaeology. Indexes, maps, and chronologies supplement the work.
